Dietitians & Body Composition Scans

We are a Dietitian led company that specialises in restoring your metabolic rate and providing individually tailored meal plans based on your own body composition!

We achieve this by using the latest technology - the InBody 570 - A Medically Graded and Therapeutic Goods Association Approved, Body Composition Analyser that has been used in over 500 scientific studies worldwide.

THE NUMBER ONE REASON YOU CAN’T LOSE WEIGHT!

People have been dieting for years and yet, we are the fattest we have ever been. What’s not working here? We have been taught that we need to eat less to lose more. WRONG!! This may have worked in the past, but we were also training ourselves to ignore our hunger and fullness cues. Physiologically, when we starve ourselves, our body loses muscle mass and fat mass at the same rate. As a result, our metabolism stops functioning and as soon as you start eating again (because this is completely unsustainable), we gain the weight back PLUS an additional few kilos because our body is protecting itself against starvation!

Your metabolism or current eating plan isn’t working correctly if you are:

  • Unable to lose or gain weight
  • Hungry all the time or don’t feel hungry at all
  • Tired
  • Lethargic
  • Craving sugar
  • Experiencing poor muscle recovery

Our personally tailored meal plans are based around your hunger, your muscle recovery, your lifestyle and your goals. If you’re losing fat, you should feel hungry every 2-3 hours but not starving. If you don’t feel hungry then your metabolism is sleeping and you NEED to see us!

BODY COMPOSITION SCANS

dexa scan body composition illwarraClearing up the misconceptions of weight loss and weight gain!

The BMI is no longer considered to be the best tool to represent your health status because it is only a reflection of your weight and height.

Your body is complex and is made up of lots of components including bone, muscle, fat, water and minerals (your body composition). All of these contribute to your ‘weight’. This is why it’s so important to stop basing your success or failure on the numbers on a scale and start learning about YOUR body composition!

Did you know?

Your body can fluctuate up to 3kgs per day due to fluid, salt, constipation and hormone changes!

Frequently Asked Questions

- How often should I get a Scan?

It’s entirely up to you! If you’re changing your diet or exercise regime it’s best to get a follow up scan 2-3 weeks later. This way, we can ensure you’re gaining muscle and losing fat, not the other way round!

- How does the Inbody 570 work?

The Inbody 570 uses electrical impedence of three different frequencies and is the only system that directly measures the body in 5 separate areas being the arms, legs and trunk. Other systems analyse the body in a singular tube system thereby using an average for body composition methods. The Inbody 570 uses an eight point tactile electrode method and direct segmental, multi-frequency, patent technology to accurately measure the water inside and outside a cell. Because it uses multiple frequencies over 8 points, it is not affected by things such as hydration, food intake or time of the day.

- How accurate are the results – How does it compare to a DEXA scan?

This technology has been scientifically verified to be 98.4% as accurate as the DEXA Scan (Dual Energy Xray Absorptiometry) without any exposure to radiation. It has been used in over 500 scientific studies worldwide and is medically graded and TGA approved. For our own peace of mind, we got a DEXA scan and an Inbody 570 scan on the same day. The results? Our body fat only differed by 200g!

- Body Composition Results will be affected by:

Pregnancy, breast augmentation, metal pins, screws or where a pacemaker, defibrillator or nerve stimulator are present. Analysis should not be carried out straight after a shower or the use of a sauna as sweat and heat cause a temporary change in conductivity within the body.

- Do I need a Doctor's referral for an appointment with a Dietitian?

A Doctor's referral is not required for you to have a consultation with an Accredited Practicing Dietitian. However, some people are eligible for 5 consultations under a Medicare Health Care Plan. Ask your GP if you are eligible.

- What is a Medicare Care Plan?

Medicare rebates are available for clients who have chronic conditions or complex care needs on referral from their GP. This program allows patients up to five visits a year with any allied health professional. At Personalised Physiques these care plan visits are bulk billed.

- Do I need to bring anything to my first appointment?

If you have a referral from your Doctor you will need to bring that along. Other helpful items include recent blood test results, a list of current medications, your Medicare Card, your Private Health Fund Card and a food diary.

- What is the difference between a Dietitian and a Nutritionist?

A Dietitian has a Bachelor's degree and usually an Honours or Masters Qualification. Dietitians have received clinical training to prescribe specific diets for medical conditions. Dietitians have a strong knowledge of Anatomy, Biochemistry and how food interacts with the body. Dietitians are required to complete compulsory Continuing Professional Development. Nutritionists may not have any University qualifications & cannot prescribe individually tailored meal plans, only basic nutrition advice.
